Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Northampton
Bring your technical expertise, commercial judgement and leadership skills to a senior role within our clients growing M&E team.
We are currently engaged by a leading, privately owned consultancy to identify an accomplished electrical engineer to take responsibility for project delivery, develop client relationships and help shape a growing team. The team work on a broad portfolio of projects, spanning education, commercial, residential, healthcare and the public sector, offering scope to influence projects and the people delivering them.
Combining hands-on technical oversight with team leadership and business development, you will help turn client requirements into well-coordinated electrical engineering solutions, from initial brief through to completion.
In this role you will take ownership of the electrical discipline on complex, multidisciplinary commissions, setting the technical approach and ensuring that designs meet the required standards. Alongside project delivery, you will play an active part in strengthening the Northampton practice and developing its future workload.
Responsibilities

Directing electrical building services design, coordinating with other disciplines and overseeing the quality of project outputs.

Managing client accounts, understanding their priorities and providing clear, practical advice throughout each commission.

Representing the team at design reviews, project meetings and workshops with clients, contractors and fellow consultants.

Reviewing technical work, resolving design challenges and maintaining consistent quality assurance.

Allocating resources and providing day-to-day support to engineers, balancing project demands with individual development.

Coaching graduates and experienced colleagues, supporting progress towards professional registration.

Recognising opportunities for additional commissions, developing repeat business and supporting wider work-winning activity.

Preparing fee submissions and helping manage project programmes, risks, budgets and financial performance.

Encouraging effective use of digital design tools, sharing knowledge and improving engineering and delivery practices.
Requirements
You will be an experienced electrical engineering professional who can combine technical knowledge with a practical understanding of consultancy work of this type. Ideally you will be someone comfortable advising clients and leading colleagues and whom takes pride in delivering a high standard of work.
We are looking for:

Degree qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering.

Chartered status, or active progress towards it, through a relevant professional body such as CIBSE or the IET.

Substantial experience designing and delivering electrical systems for buildings, supported by sound knowledge of British Standards, Building Regulations and relevant industry guidance.

Experience within a multidisciplinary consultancy, including responsibility for project teams and client relationships.

Clear communication skills and the confidence to bring together stakeholders with different priorities.

A demonstrable commitment to developing engineers and graduates through mentoring and technical support.

Strong commercial awareness, including an understanding of fees, project costs and financial management.
