The role can be based from a number of UK locations, although national travel will be required.
The Opportunity
Working alongside established Expert Witnesses, you will investigate and provide technical opinion on complex building and construction matters, with a particular emphasis on building defects, causation and rectification.
Responsibilities
- Undertake detailed technical and site investigations.
- Analyse building defects, causation and remedial solutions.
- Support Expert Witness instructions and complex disputes.
- Prepare clear, technically robust reports.
- Meet clients and other stakeholders to present findings.
- Identify opportunities to develop client relationships and new work.
- Progress towards taking greater responsibility for Expert Witness instructions.
About You
We are interested to speak to both experienced Expert witnesses and senior Building Surveyors who have developed considerable technical credibility during their careers, and are attracted by the opportunity to move into the expert witness and dispute resolution market.
You are likely to offer:
- 15+ years' relevant commercial building surveying/construction experience.
- Chartered Building Surveyor or Chartered Builder status.
- Significant experience of building defects, investigation and rectification.
- Strong practical knowledge of construction and building pathology.
- Knowledge of current and historic regulations, standards and industry guidance.
- Experience of JCT and/or NEC contracts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- The ability to distil complex technical information into clear written opinions.
- Credibility and confidence when dealing with clients and other professionals.
- Willingness to travel nationally when required.
- Experience of housing disrepair claims may be useful, although the position is principally focused on commercial property and construction matters.
Why Consider It?
For somebody who has spent their career developing deep technical expertise, this offers the opportunity to use that knowledge in a rewarding way.
You will join an established specialist team, work on challenging and often high-profile disputes, receive structured Expert Witness development and support to build a career in a market where genuine technical experience and professional judgement are highly valued.
All enquiries and applications to North Gate will be treated in the strictest confidence.
