Senior Design Manager

c£80,000 Basic Salary, Car Allowance, Pension, Benefits.

Oxfordshire, UK

We are currently engaged by an impressive, privately owned contracting organisation that has developed a commendable culture and reputation across the building sector in Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas.

Steeped in history and equally with an eye on the future, they have a consistently busy and interesting workload in particular with a number of Commercial, Residential, Industrial and Leisure schemes ongoing and due to commence.

As opportunities increase in an improving market, the business is looking to strengthen it’s Design Management capability and seek someone who can contribute to the design management team at both delivery and in precontruction stages, working closely with the senior management across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Pre Construction Manager
  • Controlling design activity on major Design & Build projects at pre construction and delivery.
  • Trouble shooting and advisory role at company level as well as hands on with key projects.
  • Value Engineering and advising on alternative methods of construction
  • Providing professional advice with regard to design risk / opportunity, to the commercial, design, delivery and client teams.
  • Producing, agreeing and managing realistic design programs on required schedule to satisfy design, procurement and construction requirements.

Experience & Attributes

  • The role suits someone who has a passion for high quality design and construction, someone who likes to be hands on, actively engaged in day to day design activities, but can also take a strategic and conceptual view.
  • Enthusiastic, and career minded, with a cradle to grave understanding of building projects.
  • Commercially astute with knowledge of value engineering, buildability and experience of competitive tenders.
  • Experience of design management of building projects valued £10M+, part of this should stem from working for a main contractor.
  • Strong people and team working skills with the ability to build upon relationships with loyal and valued colleagues, suppliers, consultants & sub contractors.
  • Professionally qualified
