Project Director – Major Education Projects

London Highly Competitive Salary + Executive Benefits

North Gate is working with a leading UK Tier 1 main contractor to appoint an experienced Project Director to take a senior leadership role across a portfolio of major education projects in London.

This is a significant appointment within an established and highly regarded construction business, offering responsibility for the delivery of complex, high-value projects from pre-construction through to completion.

The successful individual will provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple project teams, combining outstanding project delivery with strong commercial judgement, client management and people leadership.

For an accomplished construction professional, this represents an opportunity to take on a high-profile London portfolio with considerable autonomy, visibility and longer-term career potential.

The Role

  • Lead a portfolio of major education projects across London.
  • Take overall responsibility for programme, quality, safety and commercial performance.
  • Lead and develop Project Directors, Project Managers and site teams.
  • Oversee project governance, risk and contractual compliance.
  • Build senior relationships with clients, consultants and supply-chain partners.
  • Work closely with commercial, design and pre-construction teams.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the wider strategy and growth of the London business.

The Individual

  • We are looking for an established construction leader with:
  • Significant experience with a Tier 1 or major main contractor.
  • A strong track record delivering major education/school projects.
  • Experience leading multiple complex projects or a substantial project portfolio.
  • Excellent understanding of programme, risk and commercial performance.
  • The presence and credibility to operate with senior clients and at board level.
  • A demonstrable ability to build, motivate and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, judgement and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience delivering projects through public-sector frameworks would be particularly attractive.

The Opportunity

This is more than a single-project role. It offers the opportunity to take a senior position within a substantial London construction business, leading important projects while helping shape the performance and development of the wider team.

The client offers the scale and resources of a major contractor alongside a long-term, people-focused culture, with considerable emphasis on quality, sustainability and responsible construction.

For someone already operating at Project Director level or an exceptional senior project leader ready for broader responsibility it represents an excellent opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership position with genuine scope to make an impact.

All enquiries and applications to North Gate will be treated in the strictest confidence.
